I really hope that together we will be able to keep the electricity grids stable and at the same time keep them within a cost range that is also affordable for small municipal utilities.

Who’s who @EASY-RES is back after the summer with Robert Damböck. Robert heads the electricity division at Stadtwerke Landau a.d.Isar and explains – among others – how EASY-RES can harness the substantial practical experiences of the company.

Robert, please tell us about yourself!

My name is Robert Damböck and I live with my wife and my three children in a small village near Landau a.d.Isar. After my studies of electrical engineering and information technology I worked as a programmer in the field of special machine engineering. Much more interesting than the special mechanical engineering, though, is the power engineering in the distribution grid. For this reason, I have been working as head of the electricity division at Stadtwerke Landau a.d.Isar since 2013.

What is the mission of Stadtwerke Landau a.d.Isar? What are you doing at the company?

My job at the Stadtwerke Landau a.d.Isar is to ensure a continuous power supply. The power grid is currently undergoing a massive transformation. In the past, electrical energy was generated in several power plants and distributed from there. Nowadays, the generation is more and more shifted to the distribution networks. This leads to changes in voltages and changes in electricity flows. This results in enormous developments and improvement in the distribution network in order to further guarantee the stability of the power grid, which must be the primary goal in the German power grid.

How did Stadtwerke Landau a.d.Isar get involved in EASY-RES?

The University of Passau was looking for a municipal utility company (electrical power distributor) with a lot of renewable energy. During this search they came across the public utility company Landau a.d.Isar. We joined the project without any hesitation.

What are the responsibilities of Stadtwerke Landau a.d.Isar within the Project?

Stadtwerke Landau a.d.Isar provides information about the current situation in German electricity grids. The utility company Landau a.d.Isar also provides information on valid German regulations. In short, we provide information on the German legal situation and practice in the distribution network.

Relating to this, why is EASY-RES crucial for your daily work at Stadtwerke Landau a.d.Isar?

As already mentioned, the stability of the power grid has top priority. However, it is expected that this will be severely compromised in years to come. EASY RES attempts to make it possible to integrate as many renewable energies as possible into the power grid, while at the same time ensuring 100% stability of the power grid.

Which aspects of your work with EASY-RES do you enjoy the most?

It is very interesting to experience the approaches of other countries in solving problems regarding renewable energies. The solutions coming about as result to brain-storming discussions are priceless. The result of the project will certainly be of great value for future projects.

And on a more private note: Which private projects or dreams would you like to fulfil?

I really hope that together we will be able to keep the electricity grids stable and at the same time keep them within a cost range that is also affordable for small municipal utilities. If we succeed in this, then I can see the “light at the end of the tunnel" for the future.
